BHD Storage Solutions completed the first Rack Clad Warehouse installation in Australia for Boral-owned, Dowell Windows, in Bayswater Victoria.
The Rack Clad Warehouse structure was built to double Dowell’s storage capacity. The new warehouse provides an efficient stock control system, protecting materials and merchandise from environmental elements, while maximising both land and vital vertical air space.
The entire structure was designed to maximise the use of Cantilever Racking , which is then, with the addition of columns and roof trusses, clad with COLOURBOND® to create the walls and roof. The design provides the inherent stability and strength of a Cantilever structure as a framework for the outer cladding, thus reducing the dependence on, and costs associated with other more traditional storage methods.
The Rack Clad Warehouse was project managed by BHD Storage Solutions, and after initial consultation with Dowell Windows, BHD was able to provide a tailor-made solution for the client. BHD’s Project Manager said of the situation, ‘In the early stages of briefing with Dowell, we realised business requirements were going to be much more than simple Cantilever Racking. We needed to provide a solution resolving storage capacity, OH&S, and site logistics, while also providing a long-term material handling solution.’
To reduce the impact on what is already a busy and demanding site, BHD Storage Solutions completed the project over the Christmas shut down period.
Dowell has been manufacturers of aluminium and timber door and window solutions for generations, designing products to suit Australian climatic conditions and lifestyles.
The project was completed over a four-month period from initial consultation to design and construction. It has allowed the client to adhere to tighter OH&S practices, with clear pedestrian access, and easier management of traffic flow.
