MAXIMISING WAREHOUSE FLOOR SPACE
Woodhouse Timber custom designed their new warehouse to optimise space and to increase floor capacity to store and supply timber products and improve warehouse management systems.
BHD Storage Solutions was awarded the project to design, manufacture, supply, deliver and install 9-meter-high Heavy-Duty Cantilever Racking system for their new 7200m2 warehouse in Brisbane.
BHD Storage Solutions and Woodhouse Timber jointly developed the scope and design in alignment with our client’s budget, program and principal requirements. Part of the brief was to optimise the available space to accommodate the extra height to store timber packs of various sizes. The double-sided Cantilever Racking columns standing at 9000mm high compared to a standard 5800mm column, this reduced the floor space requirement by 37%. The use of narrow aisle fork lifts required BHD to design 2330mm aisles from a standard aisle of 3400mm. This reduced the floor space compared to standard aisles by 35%. In total, 1500m2 of floor space was saved by the introduction of the 9000m columns and narrow aisles, an estimated saving of $1,500,000 in land and building costs.
